My Character is an Elf Ranger
who would prefer to be off in the forest alone, or in the back of an adventuring
band. This is not the situation he is put in though, he is leading the
band. We will see how long this lasts before he sneaks off to the edge
of the pack to follow the group from a watchful distance. He is currently
only a level two character so he will lead the group as long as he has
to seek the protection of the group while he gains levels and experiences.
So far he has received a new nick name of "twig thrower" because
one night when he was woken up by a sound he was immediately placed in
a situation where he had to defend himself from a creature looking like
a bushel of twigs. When this occurred, instead of grabbing a weapon he
just grab the creature whom he then proceeded to throw into the camp fire.
The fun part of the new 3ed. D&D
rules is that the adventuring can take place above ground as well as in
the dungeons. In the first few games we spent most of our time above ground
adventuring through the Gnarly forest, but now we are into a dungeon working
to solve the puzzles of a knight that had his entire subordinates go mad
or at least revolt against his authority.
Some of the other creatures that he has had run-ins with up to date include.
an Owl Bear
a Wyvern
and an Axe Beak bird
a Troll under a bridge
numerous Orcs and skeletons
some Pegasus

Game1 back to summaries
The group stared off in a town and gathered the group together in order to investigate
the disappearance of a Caravan that had not been heard from in some time. The Caravan
was carrying wine barrels. After accepting the adventure the group headed off
toward the woods to follow the path the caravan was suppose to take. On
this path we ran into a group of parading knights that where gather a tax
for the town; or at least that is what they said. We under minded their
scheme and killed them all; the conflict occurred when we would not pay
the tax for passing the toll gate. We had approached the gate cautiously
and had a couple of members slip around in back to give us a better advantage
and the advantage of surprise.
Game2 back to summaries
The group continued where it left off from above and continue toward the forest. The day was met
with a battle with ax beak birds and some type of twig creature at night.
Also a wyvern and rider where encountered this day just after they had
attacked some unknown travelers.
Game3 back to summaries
The group ran into a Troll
guarding a bridge. This battle could have ended in defeat but the priest
was smart and set the troll ablaze with fire. The group may it to the woods
this day and attempted to run to the aid of an elf but where too late to
save the elf, even though they managed to kill the part that had done the
evil deed.
Game4 back to summaries
The group entered a town and spent some time getting to know the inhabitance and gather supplies.
The wanderer Elaith ventured on ahead to investigate the path they would
be travailing down next, and in doing so flushed out an owl bear which
ended up being quite a pain to deal with. We all survived but then need
some more time to heal up in the previous town. We also had to get a new
horse for our wagon, because our previous horse met an untimely death when
it was used to charge the owl bear. during this outing Throkk was not present
as when the party made it to the town the Orc had managed to get himself
lost and spend the day trying to find his was back to the party.
Game5 back to summaries
The group headed out on the road towards the place the wine caravan
was head to. On the road we ran into a Orc encampment and had to deal with this group of thugs. The
Orcs and the small brains where mere muscle and no brain, so the idea was
to keep them at a distance and take them out be fore they where close enough
for hand-to-hand combat.
Game6 back to summaries
The group picked up about
the ruined tower where the Orcs where at and then found a below ground
burial ground or cavern which was guarded by evil forces that had been
cage up down in the cavern due to their evil uprising a century before.
The dungeon provided may problem solving puzzles and battles. The game
was ended as we began a fight with a number of Undead who guarded some
unknown prize. Adventuring in the dungeon made us use all up our fighting
and cognitive skills. We managed to pick up a glowing sword and and figure
out a cursed statue.
Game7 back to summaries
The group will end the
battle with the Undead and gather any special treasure on the cavern. DID
NOT FINISH.
Game8 back to summaries
The game started as a new
beginning. With new players showing up and some old players going off the
adventuring on their own. The beginning of our adventure placed us
back into the town of Five Oaks, where we were send on a mission to find
Karista a representative of the St. Cuthbert church in Five Oaks. She was
sent to help the people of Ossington a town to the North. Activities along
the way to Ossington include the following.
( "*" by some names in this section indicate a connection between the people)
- Finding Karista and her pegasus dead on the road.
- Finding a new friend Barron and dwarf.
- Finding numerous dead peasants.
- One Undead Knight --ghost--illusion--etc.
- One farm house with one rather friendly women (Tanacha) towards Elaith.
- The Temple of Nine Gods (all Neutral)-- with one strange woman (*Henwin)
- Same temple later sprung forth shadows which attacked part or the party.
- One ancient Druid town (Ossington).
- One Bard (*Cuckoo), One soon to be dead mayor (Elder Merdo).

Game9 back to summaries
The beginning of the game
starts in Ossington with a number of possible choices for quests. We decide
to Sathanard's barrow and see where Tully has won (stole) her magical sword.
The barrow was approximately 6.5 miles to the NE. We started our walk through
light forest following Tully's lead, as there was no visible warn path
to fallow.
At 15 minutes out we stumbled upon
6 skeletons which appeared to be fleeing the direction in which we where
going. The skeletons seemed to be impaled by metal arrows, (note this is
a change from the stone arrows found before in the city which kill Merdo
the mayor).
At 2 miles out we came upon an oak
tree which was in a clearing because the tree had been burnt. The tree
had a face and arms and was determined to be a Tree Ant (ancient animated
tree). Tully disrespected the tree by stabbing at it and spitting at it.
Elaith and Thomotheis said a prayer over the tree. In this clearing we
found again more arrows but his time the arrow was made using decorative
metal (very skillful hand made this arrow). At the tree we found that Tully
had showed signs of having a questionable motive.
At 4.5 miles out we came upon freshly
killed bodies(3 male) hanging from some trees by there necks although there
cause of death was most likely the stone tipped arrows protruding from
their backs. These hunters (?) had a pouch of coins engraved with
a leaf. The bodies where found to have the symbol of death etched in their
fresh (warning ?). There continue to be no signs of animals and the
dead bodies have not been disturbed by any. Also from this distance
we can see up ahead the mound.
At 6.5 miles out we arrive at the
mound and discover an unguarded entrance on the west side and no other
visible approach to the mound (e.i. no paths leading to the mound are found).
The entrance is made of gray stones and with druid inscriptions.
In the mound we find engravings
of historical battles as well as Tully's proposed guard with see relieved
of a weapon. The main room contains an onyx alter with decaying flowers.
During this adventure the following tales are unfold:
- Three secret doors are found leading out of the main room.
- One ax wielding ghost/fiend.
- One scary ghost/fiend which causes Humpy the run in fear.
- Two rooms with trap walls closing.
- One earth/stone elemental.
- And numerous close calls to loss of life.
Game10 back to summaries
We ran into a member of
the Red Bear tribe (Rathgar) who was looking for his brother (Ulfgar) who
had already entered the barrow some time before we arrived. This new NPC
aided us in our endeavors until he met an untimely death due to an earth
elemental. We did however find his brother and after convincing him that
we did not kill his brother he helped us gain access to Sathanard's tomb.
We had a run in with Sathanard and Thomotheis will have to bathe after
this encounter, however we made it in and back out in a conscience state.
Key moments and problems
- The passages ways where very narrow so the adventurer at the front had their work cut out for them.
- Our trap finding skills were very poor, or luck was against us.
- Elaith was responsible for the death of the pegasus, after he sprung a trap that just about left him drooling
on the ground.
- Rathgar fought valiantly but obtained death rather than victory over the earth elemental which had blocked us
in a narrow passage way.
- After retreating back to the entrance
to the cavern for rest we ran into Ulfgar who lead us back into the cavern.
- Ulfgar was a master trap finder, and he lead us into the the tomb of Sathanard without a scratch.
- Timotheis received mercy after fighting Sathanard.
- Sathanard was not to happy to see Tully with the sword that was from his guard which had been killed.
Game11 back to summaries
We exited the Barrow only
to be witness to Tully being cleaved by the ghost knight, when she tried
to go back to town by herself. After we had our own encounter with the
ghost knight, we when to the west to Red Horse Hill. There we lay witness
to the ghost knight once more but this time we seem to have taken on a
quest in the knights honour...hopefully we will figure out what this quest
is in the game to come. Timotheis said a prayer over the site where the
ghost knight was laid to rest, this seemed to please the knight soul. This was after
Thorkk waded out to the middle of the lake, which was in front of the hill
and where we saw the ghost of the knight sink into, to see the remains
of the knight. We then searched the top of Red Horse Hill (the symbol on
the top of the hill look more like a dragon though) an found an onyx alter
of some wild elf clan which was giving homage to the dragon of the hill
which we perceived to be evil. More wild elves shot as us while we where
around this site.
Game12 back to summaries
We left the left the hill
and went South into the forest just west of Ossington. In when traveled
for some time but where clever enough to spot some wild elves up ahead
of use, due to Isbin's hack and some keen eyes. After seeing the we had
spotted them the elves and some our adventurers attacked us. We defended
ourselves well but many of us spend some time drooling on the ground only
able to hear the calls for help from our friends. During this encounter
we tried to at least get a couple words out of the attacker but they where
bent on killing us all. This encounter was also weird because a treant
was involved and treants are good natured, however it is know that they
are hard to reason with once they perceive you are evil. Although this
battle was difficult and the Treant at the end ran away we managed to stay
alive and collect some rather useful new weapons (bows, potions, swords,
etc).
The match ups
- Isbin vs. Sorcerer and some birds
- Elaith, Humpy, Throkk vs. evil elf with a powerful bow.
- Timotheis and his elemental vs. Treant.
Game13 back to summaries
After wiping the drool off of our faces and standing up again we spent a little time trying to
figure out what our new weapons could do. After taking some time to rest
and talking over the events which have occurred over the past couple of
days we started off for the temple of the nine neutral god in search of
Henwin. We hoped the Henwin being a druid could help us figure out the
issue of there not being any animals in the forests and also anything about
the rumor that animals where once turned in the human for in order to help
protect and build the druid site at Ossington. Henwin was no where to be
found so we headed into town (what a mistake).
We approached town being a little
wary of was Dyson has been doing. As we approached the inner circle of
stones at Ossington we where met by Dyson you was congratulating us for
having taken care of the band of wild elves raiding Ossington (we knew
that we where sent out to save the town from the wild elf raids, however
we where not certain that we had already done this task. We where not necessarily
looking for the wild elves, to kill them, we just happened to come across
them during our forest crossing). Dyson wanted to just get us back to the
tower to give us some reward for our dead for the town when I, Elaith,
got a little to personal with my inquiries about the town and the people
and the animals into people...Dyson became furious when I was asking too
many question and he and the towns people came at us (we had already spied
the towns people gathered behind the tower with farm tools via Isbin's
Hawk).
By luck we where able to catch Dyson off guard as we become
prepared for the fight sooner then he did, this
lead to his immediate death...but wait...resurection came to Dyson via
a spell cast by Henwin. During the first few moments of the battle Cuckoo
turned showed his true self which was a beast from another plane. Although
Dyson was taken down by sword the first time I , Elaith, took out the newly
acquired bow and worked away on both Dyson and Henwin. Throkk and Isbin
worked on the beast which was Cuckoo with little luck at hitting him. After
Dyson and Henwin where defeated the beast seemed to have not need to stay
in this plane and therefore retreated through a portal to another plane.
We found a few useful item in Dyson's tower but nothing too valuable beside
the mental satisfaction that we thwarted Dyson bigger plans to try and
use the druid ruins, which can focus energy from different planes, to bring
creatures from another plane to this one and try and take on Greyhawk himself.
Keys to the victory
- We actually got the jump on them
- Elaith took a potion of haste and used the chaos bow of six.
- The town folk where not well trained
or armed, and were easily convinced to stop after Dyson and Henwin where
dead.
- The beast lost interest after Dyson and Henwin were dead.
Game 14 back to summaries
We began our way back to
Five Oaks believing that other encounters with the people and inhabitants
of the Ossington area were far behind us, but boy were we wrong. It seems
that Ashardalon, the red dragon from Red Horse Hill, did not like the vandalism
that we did to the monument/altar on top of his hill. Ashardalon took us
be surprise and flew in and landed on the cart pinning Timotheis and Throkk
to the ground. We managed to do some damage to him but in his exit he decided
to leave us with a firery present. This Fireball left myself, Elaith, and
Humpy in bad condition. I at least was able to be revived by natural means,
Humpy had to be given something a little more potent. After Timotheis called
upon an elemental from another plane, he ask the creature if it was with
in his power of the power of his master the ability to wake (raise) Humpy
from his dirt nap. The creature was able to handle the tall order but Timotheis
became indebted to him and was charged with a task from the creature. The
task is to destroy Ashardalon, this task was not one that the rest of the
group felt needed to be addressed in the near future. However, Timothies
may be plagued with disturbing dreams/visions until he complies...but that
is another story.
Back on the road to Five Oaks we
encounter some wandering Orc and decide to take advantage of this training
opportunity, are are of course a dirty despicable group of creatures...oh
sorry Thorkk I didn't see you there. grumble..grumble..
